Hi,

I am running SMF 2.0 RC2. I would like to make the admins private one the board. When I select that option I get the following message:

Quote
Are you sure you want to disallow assignment of this group as a users primary group?
Doing so will restrict assignment to additional groups only, and will update all current "primary" members to have it as an additional group only.

I just wanted to ask, will this have any negative effects on the Admin group?
The last part of that message is giving me a bit of trouble.
Sorry my english isn't the best but if its explained I am sure I will get it.

Actually, Aiko, that doesn't make a lot of sense to me, either.

I'm English!

Aiko

lol, thank you. It's good to know its not just me then :)

I to have no idea what that message even means.

What exactly are you trying to do? Make a board that is only available to Admins? How are you going about doing this?

I looked into that text string (it's "$txt['membergroups_edit_hidden_warning']" defined in ManageMembers.english.php), and I believe it means that if the membergroup's visibility is set to "Invisible" that it can be no one's primary group. Eg. if someone's primary membergroup is Admin, it will become an "additional" group instead if the Admin group's visibility is edited to "Invisible", and that "Admin" can only be set as an additional group from that point forward. At least, that's how I interpret it.

That would make sense. Thanks :)

Aiko, can you check to see if the group is invisible.

I wanted to make it so that the admins did not have the word "admin" where their avatar was on the forum. Instead, while they are admin and in the admin usergroup, I wanted only a different usergroup (that admins and others are in) to be visible to others.

Did I say that okay?

Ahh, that actually makes sense to me. Thank you. So I guess it is impossible to have a person's main membergroup be invisible then. That's what I wanted to do..make admin their main group, but just keep it invisible.

I went ahead and selected the setting to make the group invisible. Like Ha² suggested, the admin group then became a secondary group. That's not what I wanted to happen, but since the group is now invisible and things seem to be okay..its alright. I was worried that by having it as a secondary group, mods would have been able to assign people to it since they do have permission to assign member groups.

Admins can hide their online status, if that helps.

It's done in their profiles. Only other admins will see them.
