"What to do"? Wait for SimplePortal to release a new version.

SimplePortal 2.3.1 works fine on SMF 2.0 RC3. Just change the installer parser to emulate RC2. Click the advanced link bottom right of the browse packages page, change it to RC2 save and install. Et Voila :)

Jeez... RC3 is what... 2 and a bit days old if that? Patience, man, patience. Takes TIME to upgrade mods.

Or... just wait for SP to update.

I don't get why everyone updates then panics when mods aren't updated... surely people would be CHECKING first?

Thank You Man!
Its Now Working!
But still have another problem in Simple Portal, In the "Board News" block I have selected to preview a post only with 500 characters but its showing the full post at the portal. Means the option 500 characters is not working properly. Its only working for the first post i.e, The first post is previewing 500 characters and the others are showing in full!

We are not sure on that answer. You will however get a better answer over at www.simpleportal.net as they know their coding better than we do.

I LOL'ed

Kill Em All

I actually don't I just wait for the mods to be updated or if they are just minor things for the mod to be changed, I make them myself and not wait for the mod author to.

Yeah, I only wish I knew coding like some of them who are impaciente and can code it themselves.

yes I find that quite odd too. I only upgrade after a sufficient number of the mods I use are available.

True, they should wait then again I update anyway because of the bugfixes, security patches and image issue in RC2 regardless of mods. ;)

All the mods I have on the forum in the sig have been checked already.

I will be busy this weekend upgrading the forum in the signature and starting a new one which will be aimed at the local community where I live.

My test forum is on 2.0 RC3 already.

Kill Em All

No, its actually really easy. The hardest part is already done every when you download the outdated mod. When a installing a mod and a test(s) fail, it means that the code its looking for in that particular file(s) is either just not there anymore, or changed a little/a lot. Most likely it was just changed around, or at least that has been my experience so far.

So I download the latest version of the mod, click install, see, oh, tests failed. Look at the file, then look at what it wants to be changing and change to. Download that file off my server, lets just say index.template.php find similar code that the file looks for. Copy the line(s) needed, then extract the zipped mod on my desktop, you should see some files such as install, install2, modification(sometimes). It varies, I'm not a dev, so don't ask me why it varies. You should see some code like this in the file:

<file name="$themedir/BoardIndex.template.php">
<operation>
<search position="replace"><![CDATA[

This code then:
]]></search>
will end the code its looking for.

Then you just take the line(s) you copied from your index.template.php file and paste it(thus replacing the code in your modification, install, etc file) in between those two code lines.

Note, in the case of there being a install, install2, I think in most cases they are the same, but I still repeat the process for both of them as I'm not sure what the second one is for, maybe someone wants to test that in the future...

That is really all there is to updating the mod yourself the easy way. There might be a easier way but that has been working for me for a while. :)

I'm not as good as they are, however, been playing with SMF for two years had let me some experience ;) now if a mod doesn't get update I just do it myself :D like Kill Em All says, the problem for me are the querys... :'(

hadesflames

You should pick up a tut on basic MySQL ;)

Once you learn the basics, it starts to kind of come to you as you start to see it more often.
