How to set SMTP Mail type and gmail

I want to set SMTP Mail type

SMTP server   smtp.gmail.com
SMTP port   465
SMTP username   [email protected]
SMTP password   *

But i can not receive activate email.
Is that right? And how to set gmail?

If you set up another mail client (e.g. Outlook Express, Thunderbird) with those same settings, does it work?

Also, i'm not sure that gmail will relay mail for you from an arbitrary address like forum@[Forum URL].tld .  It may only accept mail from your gmail address.

Your ISP or hosting provider should give you an SMTP server to use.
