How to create custom pages

I have simpleportal so it makes it easier to make custom pages, but how do i put the links and stuff on the navigation bar with the "home, forums,  help" and all that can someone please?

It would help to know which version SMF you are using

For 1.1: How do you add custom tabs to the Core (default) theme menu?

For 2.0: Adding tabs to SMF 2.0
