Hi,

I'm creating a community site using Simple Portal as the main page and forum Boards to handle individual networks that the public can use to discuss predefined topics.

My problem is this:

If a new member joins the forum they have restricted access to the boards, is it possible for a new member to only view all the parent boards and request permissions to access them?

Thanks,

Will.

I believe there is an option to restrict a child board when you make it, but there's probably a mod out to request access.

You can create a membergroup for each separate board.
These membergroups should be given by request.
On each board you can select which membergroup can see it.
Please, don't PM me for support unless invited.
If you don't understand this, you will be blacklisted.

When you create a membergroup, make sure "Requestable (User may request membership)" is checked, beside "Group Type:".

OOPS! Beaten to it!

Hi,

I'm still struggling with this.  I'd like all Forum members to be ale to view the title of each board but not access them unless thay have permission to do so.

They need to request access to each board.

kat

You want them to see the titles, but not enter...

I don't think that can be done, without a mod.

Have you searched the mods? http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/

Does this mod help?

http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2309  (combined with users requesting membership of membergroups)

Either that or this one: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=610

Anyways, is this resolved? Feel free to mark it solved if it is resolved. :)

Thanks for your help.  I think that's working now, or I'll simply have to link it to the membergroup screen.
