I doubt you'll need to uninstall anything.  It will not affect any themes.

I updated to 1.0.5 however, in admin when I click "Smileys and Smiley Sets", I get an error msg:

QuoteUnable to load the 'settings' template.

Also, when I click on "Current Theme's Settings", I get an error:

Quote2: Invalid argument supplied for foreach()
File: /home/virtual/site243/fst/var/www/html/forum/Sources/Themes.php
Line: 217

It sounds like you have outdated files and templates, I'm afraid.

If I install SMF 1.0.5 from the scratch... and then dump the DB contents, will it work?

I think it will! If it doesn't, just run upgrade.php and your database will be upgraded to SMF 1.0.5 as well :)

Aaron.

Is this a necessary update?  Everything seems to be operating fine with 1.0.3.  I just hate to update when I don't have to, especially when I have made so many modifications in customized registration, Who.english.template, etc.

It is.

What files do I need to back up so I can easily apply the modifications?  I've customized register.template, profile.template, index.template and who.english.  I believe that's all of them.

Grudge

jazz,

None of those files have changed - and if you install through the package manager it should go fine. I'd just backup the files you've changed, plus your database just because you should ALWAYS backup your database - even though upgrading won't touch it :)

I'm only a half geek really...

Just updated and everything went fine, but I didn't receive an e-mail notification about this update as I did for 1.0.4.  What gives?  I really appreciate the notifications when an update has been released... especially when it involves security issues.

Yonkey

I just got a notification today, but it's kinda funny because I already upgraded to 1.0.5. :P
