Music on my forum

Hi there,

The internet has a lot of free scripts and other cool stuff, but I just can't find this particular script. I am looking for an script that does the following:

When a user posts something with an music file attached, then I want the forum to show an media player instead of an download button. So people can share some music files without actually downloading the file.

The forum I manage is for my local band, and we want to discuss music on the forum.

The forum version is: 2.0 RC1.2

When you say "Music file", do you mean mp3, or other formats?

Will these files be hosted on your own site, or elsewhere?

Saying "So people can share some music files without actually downloading the file." is a bit of a misnomer, because the file WILL be downloaded, at least into the browser's cache, for the file to be played.

Yeah most files will be mp3, wma or what so ever.

No my idea is that people make a new post and add the mp3 file as attachment. Then the script must recognize that and show an media player instead of an download button.

Yeah of course they download it, but you don't get a screen which states open/save as.

I'll check out the links and reply after I've done that.

hmm... those links are media players that you can embed in an website. I am looking for a mod/script as described above

Sadly, there are a few mods.

I say "Sadly", because they're for SMF v1.x.

Maybe a modder will see this and help you out, eh?

I'm pretty sure some of them live on a different planet, even!

We do have Dutch people who do mods, though.

y dont u use aeva auto embeder .... it works

sorry, u said u want it for attachments but Aeva excludes attachments...

Thank you guys for looking out for me. As soon as I find the time I will install the JWPlayer (probably this weekend). That one supports mp3 indeed.

Oh? How do you know, and why is that?? Well I guess iff it works fine I won't be needing support.

The author, Arantor, knows SMF inside out, so it will work flawlessly unless you have another mod that  alters the same area(like any mod).
It's working flawlessly for me, and he is planning more tweeks.
There are more mods on the way from him, so I suggest you bookmark or join his site.
I think there are 9 mods there at the moment.

i respect him.. he is a good mod author..makes mods that work flawlessly most of the time... but hez so arrogant as well...
plus he has disabled comments on his mods..these comments were being used for support purpose but he denied support and disabled the comments... my personal experience..

He did however make it perfectly how he would deal with his mods and there is a community support board so you can always use that if you choose.
