Problem with avatars

In the moderator control panel, I have avatar sizes set as 100x100 - for both uploaded and external avatars.  However, a member of mine was using an external avatar, which although resized, was still 150x100.

But then he changed it to another external avatar.
In Firefox: In the chatbox (Tinyportal) I can see his avatar fine, but in his profile and in actual posts nothing is displayed. 
In IE and Chrome: Everything works fine

If an animated image gets resized, only the first frame will be shown.

I'm aware of this problem too.  However, this avatar doesn't display at all.

What if you resize the animation, then use that?
