This mod is outdated, and as such, I don't know how well we will be able to offer support. It is even unmanaged by the original author.

Here is a newer mod that works with SMF 2.0 RC2 (and apprently RC3)

It installed perfectly on my RC3 forum, so you should be able to use that. A screen shot of what it looks like:

The one I gave you is a bit different.

The member themselves have to have "PM Popup" enabled under their account settings.

As far as I see, there is no way to enable it for them. You will have to ask your members to enable the feature. It is found in:

Profile -> Account Settings -> (Mouseover)Account Settings -> Personal Messaging -> "Show a popup when I receive new messages."

the mod is archived that means its no longer being supported, also it is not compatible with 2.0 rc3
