MK Portal isn't compatable with 1.1 beta.

Owdy

Copy Settings_bak.php and rename it to Settings.php

i've done that...   i had to run a fresh installation  and  tried to transfer  the old  db  ..
i transfer my members  ,private messages fine.. only the topics  acting up

[Unknown]

Okay, fixed the package manager typo.  That one was my fault.

smf_1-1-beta3p_upgrade/readme.html says - MySQL 3.23.6 or higher.

I am running MySQL 3.23.56. Am I out of luck?

You're fine.  3.23.6 is older than 3.23.56.  That said, the newest version of 3.23.x is 3.23.58 iirc, and I wouold STRONGLY suggest 4.0.x if at all possible.

Maybe a bit of newbie question....but hey..this is a learning process for me....

I want to upgrade my 1.0.5 forum to 1.1 beta 3 public....i have done a backup via the Forum Maintence section and got a zipped file that won't open, also did an unzipped one that is a notepad file that appear to contain everything ever done on the forum...

If the upgrade goes wrong...how do i restore my forum using the backup?
And do i need to backup the SQL database seperately?

You may wish to check the Moving Server topic for the general procedure.

is there a bug with bbc buttons and smilie js in the classic theme? Dont work anymore after changing the post.template?

None that I know of.  Make sure your files are all up to date, and press Ctrl-F5.  If you continue experiencing problems, please post a new topic in General English Support.

will for example my modified version of the default template work in 1.1?

Unfortunately, not very well in all cases.  We hope to add a guide soon on updating themes to 1.1, but until then you'll have to use a file comparison tool.

Unfortunately, that's the problem: Settings.php from the old version is needed.

! Repairing your forum didn't work properly for versions of MySQL older than 4.0.4. (RepairBoards.php)

While I do appreciate the bug report, I also suggest you consider asking your host if it's possible to upgrade.  SMF should work on MySQL 3.23.x, but it's written for 4.0.x and higher.

I am aware that there is no way to upgrade through the package manager currently.  Will there be one in the future when this version is stable or a final?

[Unknown]

As I said above, no.  Not for major updates.  It's a big change and requires a lot of things be done by the upgrader.

If you want it to do that to keep your mods, you're crazy.  Mods won't work with 1.1 because the code is different - trying to retain them would either make SMF not work, or make the mod not work.

Nice, I am going NOW to get the beta. Could I install vanilla in another directory and new DB then restore my old DB? I dont want to use the upgrade method.

vln004

this is the last build with new features right? so mods from here on should be compatible with the gold release right?

Tristan Perry

Upgrade went great in my forums.. Now to get these themes from 1.0 RC1 updated!

Most of mods wont work with this beta version.

This is the last 1.1 release that had major new features. Complete feature freeze will be when RC1 is released. But even after that, significant changes can be made. If versions weren't different, there wouldn't be any need to release different versions ;)

If you are using the coppermine bridge, you will probably need to change this line in /bridge/smf.inc.php

cm_include_smf_funcs("$sourcedir/Load.php", array("reloadSettings", "md5_hmac", "loadUserSettings"));

to

cm_include_smf_funcs("$sourcedir/Load.php", array("reloadSettings", "md5_hmac", "loadUserSettings", "cache_get_data"));
