I am having a few problems with my forum eating posts and the search function doesn't work. This is what I get with the search function:

LainaaDatabase Error
Table './NAME_smf1/smf_log_search_results' is marked as crashed and should be repaired
File: /home/NAME/public_html/forum2/Sources/Search.php
Line: 859

Note: It appears that your database may require an upgrade. Your forum's files are currently at version SMF 1.1.11, while your database is at version 1.1.2. The above error might possibly go away if you execute the latest version of upgrade.php.

While upgrading, the upgrade either stops and times out, or there are random errors that prevent from the upgrade.

Not sure what to do...

What hosting do you use? Make a backup of what you have now and then do a repair on the database.

You should be able to repair the database through your hosting control panel if you have cpanel.  If not use phpMyAdmin, select the database, then that table and then select from the dropdown menu near the bottom of the page; Repair Table.  That should take care of the crashed table.

Once that is done,  you should be able to update the smfVersion variable in your database by running this querry in phpMyAdmin.

UPDATE `smf_settings` SET `value` = '1.1.11' WHERE `variable` = 'smfVersion' LIMIT 1

I'm using a hosting service through micfo.com, which has been nothing but major headaches, for one reason or another. I've made so many back ups of the forum it was slowing down my computer to the point of blue screening every few hours.

I do have cPanel as well as phpMyAdmin. I repaired the database before (and just did it again) and even had to reinstall SMF for the third time in under one month... Everything seemed fine, but the same problem came back only a few days later.

I have no idea how to use phpMyAdmin, nor where to enter the code provided. I did find something and tried it but got this:

LainaaSQL error:

ERROR:  syntax error at or near "`" at character 8

In statement:
UPDATE `smf_settings` SET `value` = '1.1.11' WHERE `variable` = 'smfVersion' LIMIT 1

Total runtime: 1.107 ms

SQL executed.

I'm assuming that isn't the correct place for it. ...Help?  :-[

In phpMyAdmin click on the SQL button and copy and paste that statement into the window, then click Go.

Sounds like you need to find a new host.  Take a look at Hosts, Hosting and Commercial Services for some good ones.

I know I probably need a new host... This one has just been absolutely awful and there are problems ALL. THE. TIME. But the thing is, I need to find a host that is okay with adult content, since my forum has, well, quite a bit of it...

I looked at a few on there before and I sent them emails before signing up to ask about adult content (it's a roleplaying forum, no images, no actual porn, all typed out works of FICTION) and none of them got back to me.

I don't even know what to do anymore. I keep having to reinstall the forum so much and nothing is working. No matter how many times I repair the database, in a few hours it's back to the same broken state it was before.

JimM

You might want to try sending some that you are interested in a PM and see what they say.  I'm sure the adult content does limit your choices but the host you have now obviously isn't performing.  I looked at their ad.

LainaaUnlimited Disk Space
Unlimited Bandwidth

Those two statements scream overseller!  Get a good host and most of your issues will disappear.

Yes, I agree. This is just too much.

Hopefully I'll find a good one that may even be cheaper than this current crappy site x.x My main concern other than finding a good host with good prices is transferring the forum over.

JimM

A good host will do the transfer for you.  At least mine offered.  I'm not sure about the others but it doesn't hurt to ask.
