Hello there,

I'm new on this forum but long time user of your forums. Today I finally tried to upgrade my forum to 1.1.11 from 1.1.4.

I've downloaded large upgrade zip file of ver 1.1.11 and placed it on server through filezilla.  After that and chmoding required directories went to my site with /upgrade.php and got that error   "The upgrader found some old or outdated language files.

Please make certain you uploaded the new versions of all the files included in the package, even the theme and language files for the default theme."

I've read several topics here regarding that error and tried with switching to default theme and language but it didn't help.

Info on my forum:
SMF File   Your Version
SMF Package   SMF 1.1.11
Sources   1.1.9
Default Templates   1.1.9
Language Files   1.1
Current Templates   1.1.9

How does that affect my forum, is my upgrade finished but for language files,  what can I do ?

Please help, web newbie humbly asking for some help  :D

Thank you in advance!

edit:   tried to replace step 0 with step 1 in browser

this happened :

Upgrading...
Updating and creating indexes... Unsuccessful!
This query:
ALTER TABLE smf_smileys
ORDER BY LENGTH(code) DESC;
Caused the error:
You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'LENGTH(code) DESC' at line 2

For the error about the smileys, see here:
How do I fix this "ALTER TABLE smf_smileys ORDER BY LENGTH" error I am getting?

For your languagefiles, if you have any other languages installed than default english, make sure to upload the updated versions as well. You can find your installed languages in the /Themes/default/languages directory.

Languagepacks can be found here:

Thank you very much for your fast reply.  I've managed to finish my upgrade with altering those files, at least it said so in the end :D

Could I delete unnecessary languages and update the ones I need ?  I need only two of them but there are dozen of them installed unnecesseraly by former admin.

xenovanis

Yes, you can delelete the languagefiles for any language you don't use. Just select them and delete them, that's all :) Make sure the languages you tend to keep on using are up to date though.

Marking this solved. Feel free to mark it unsolved if you have additional questions. ;)
