Move Merged Post To The Top

Previous topic - Next topic

Mr.Bean

Hello,
Is it possible to move a post, that you have merged with another topic, to the top of this new topic?

For example, a user creates a topic that has a similar subject to one that you have already created.
The users topic builds up a lot of replies, so instead of deleting it you merge it with the existing topic that was already available.
Because the first post in their topic contained important information for everyone to read you want it to remain at the top.
Merging two topics attaches the newest posts to the end which means that the first post of the newer topic is no longer the first post of this merged topic.

Perhaps there is a way to select which post should be shown first when merging to topics together?

Thanks

MrPhil

Merged topics are ordered by date and time of their posts. If this does not give you the desired order, one thing you could do is edit the first post and cut and paste in the content you want. I don't know of any mod to change the timestamp on a given post to move it to the top. Perhaps you could do that directly in phpMyAdmin (change the post timestamp), but I can't guarantee that there won't be knock-on consequences (e.g., the topic entry having a pointer to the "old" first post, which you'd have to manually change, too). If you're not intimately familiar with the database layout of a topic, you might want to steer clear of manually changing the database. Maybe it would be appropriate to write a mod to move a selected post up to the top (by changing its timestamp and the topic pointer to it)? If it's possible to merge two topics, or move a post from one topic to another, it ought to be possible.
