Can't install SMF

Okay I clicked download and it downloaded. I went to install and it won't install. It said it cannot open the file. Someone help?

What version of SMF?   

What method of installation are you attempting? 

Normally, the way to install is to use an ftp application such as Filezilla.  Download the install zip.  Then open it (you can right-click on it and unarchive it).  There is a folder inside. 

First, create a database on your server.

Then, create a folder on your server (unless you want the forum in your main (root) folder.  Open the folder you find inside the zip and move everything you see there, all contents to the place you've created for your forum on your server.  Make all the files and directories writable (permissions should be set 755 for folders and 644 for files). Point your browser to install.php and follow the instructions to install.
