SMF Installer Error

I followed all the steps and i got this message

"Cannot connect to the MySQL database server with the supplied data.
If you are not sure about what to type in, please contact your host.
Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)
Click here to try this step again. "

Do you have root access on the server ?

Did you create a database before beginning the installation?  If so, did you remember to write down  1.)  database name  2.)  database username  3.)  database password?

Also, for the server, it may not be "localhost".  Sometimes it is, but not always. Log into phpMyAdmin and you should be able to see the server name.

It helps to jot all this down and have it there by you, when installing.  (Case sensitive).
