Did a search for this but couldn't find any discussions.

My site has been running for 3~4 years and I just run into this error a few weeks ago.  Of course it means that absolutely no emails are being sent out.  I have been discussing this with the "experts" running the mail server I am connected to and they are scratching their heads.  It seems pretty clear something has changed at their end that is blocking SMF from logging into its email account.

I have confirmed that all my settings are correct and have connected to the same email account via MS outlook with no problems.  It looks as if the mail server might be blocking mail forwarding or the IP address of my site.

Can anyone offer any suggestions so I can tell them what to look for.

Okay, I have done some more testing.

We have two servers available, simply named smtp and smtp2.  Our company domain only ownloads its mail from smpt2 so people within that domain can only get their mail from there.

I tried the alternative "smtp" server and everyhting was fine...except of course that only external mail gets delivered.

Now, clearly there is a set up difference between the two mail servers but I am having to fight to find out what.  If I can give a definitive problem to the admins, then they might be able to change a setting for me.

So again, can anyone suggest why I am getting this error?

I tried deleting the smtp user name and/or password as I have already read on other forums, but this just threw up another error,

Error: 550 5.7.1 <[email protected]>... Relaying denied. IP name possibly forged

Setting the user name and password just keeps coming back to the original error.

PLEASE!!!  Anybody!!!

Unfortunately this is not an SMF issue.  You may want to make sure the port is correct for the SMTP mail to work.  Other than that, the folks that run the mail server will need to fix this as obviously something changed if it just stopped working.

Thanks for the feedback, I will take it up with the mail serer provider.

Any update on this?  Were you able to isolate the changes to the mail server and get things working again?

Not yet, I am still fighting with this.

I have also been looking at another option - to set up MailEnable on the same dedicated server that my forum is running on.  Unfortunately, for whatever reason I have not been able to get Mailenable configured properly yet - even for a test mail account.  My server is running Windows Server 2003 - It should be easy enough but I am having a real headache.

Can you suggest any other mail server software packages that I could try.
