Need Help installing SMF, can't get the Install.php file to work

I'm trying to install SMF on an unmanaged server running Debian Lenny with Nginx as my webserver.  I've got Nginx configured and have a simple static page displaying on the web via my URL.  I have created a folder called SMF and have uploaded all the files there.  When I navigate to www.mydomain.com/smf/install.php it displays the contents of the install.php file instead of executing it.  I believe this may have to do with not having PHP configured properly, but I don't know where to go from here, I'm stuck, please help.

you would need to find a php/nginx support forum for the best help. smf support forum will mostly help you configure smf to work not the server that hosts it.

A very good suggestion.  You might also use Google and search for "php/nginx".
