Morn All & Happy Thanksgiving,

I have had SMF installed for about 3 months on my home pc and am transferring everything to a new PC/Server but ran into an issue.  I guess I got lucky when I installed everything on the PC because it went fine.  The details are below and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Error message when trying to install SMF on the new server:

The installer was unable to detect MySQL support in PHP.  Please ask you host to ensure that PHP was compiled with MySQL, or that the proper extension is being loaded.

I am the host and heck if I know, but I do know this.

Running WinXP/Apache2/MySQL5.1 & PHP5.2

I have done searches in the community and found 2 threads.  One was quite old and everything checked out in the other.  I have read the requirements and checked my php.ini file.  I even compared the one that this pc is using and added the following to the new server php.ini file - extension_dir="C:\Program Files\PHP\ext".

Any help would be appreciated but please keep in mind that I am getting old and slow so try to be specific.  While I am here, might as well ask where the heck my db file is that I need to copy over once the forums are on the new server ?

Thank you for your time.

I will give it a try but would really appreciate you keeping an eye open just in case I have problems.  If everything goes ok then I will mark it as solved... if I can figure out how to do it..lol

Yeah, we'll keep an eye open.

Just post, again, if you need any help.  :)

Morn K@,

After trying the threads you posted and still at a dead end, I decided to start over and reinstall PHP & MySQL.  I found a great beginners installation guide with pics and all.  It even showed on install how to fix what would become a future issue tryint to get AJAX Chat working.  I have posted the URL below to help any others that are new and need straight forward help while installing.

Once again, thank you for your help.  I have SMF up and running on the new server but now need to copy the database & the current theme/changes over.  I am using an heavy modified default theme.  Any suggestions ?  I will start looking now but you would probably be able to point me in the right direction a little quicker.

Returns the error text from the last MySQL function. Errors coming back from the MySQL database backend no longer issue warnings. Instead, use mysql_error() to retrieve the error text. Note that this function only returns the error text from the most recently executed MySQL function (not including mysql_error() and mysql_errno()), so if you want to use it, make sure you check the value before calling another MySQL function.
