Doing a clean install of SMF 2.0 RC4
Using the Webinstall.php

When hitting the FTP screen I'm met with (Note xxx is username logged in)

Notice: Undefined index: files_to_download in /home/xxxxxxx/public_html/webinstall.php on line 686

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/xxxxxx/public_html/webinstall.php on line 686
Sorry, the FTP path you entered wasn't the same place as this installer was uploaded to.
250 OK. Current directory is /public_html
That is where the webinstall.php was uploaded to:

Checked line 686 of the webinstall.php and all that's there is a

686:{
The line below this brace is:
687: $ftp->create_file('smf_install' . $i . '.tmp');
688: $ftp->chmod('smf_install' . $i . '.tmp', $chmod);

The line above this brace:
685: foreach ($_SESSION['webinstall_state']['files_to_download'] as $i => $file

FTP credentials are fine, using these same credentials works with filezilla, cuteftp, browser URL

Now before you tell me to do a manual install (which I will most likely end up doing)
The server is fine, this was done on the same server under another domain name, and other than database connectivity issues, the install
went fine.

Any idea what's going on? or should I just do that convoluted, time consuming, manual upload?
Thanks

Illori

the webinstall does not work on all servers, try to do a manual install.

Thanks...
I guess I'll have to, and as my message said, a previous install worked using the webinstall on the same server just under a different domain
same package, same everything, just curious as to why one would work and one would fail

Thanks anyhow.

It would be difficult for us to answer why one would work and another did not without knowing some detailed information about your server.  The fact that it worked once but not again on a different domain seems interesting.  The error reports a path issue so that would be a good place to start troubleshooting.

Having the same issue here.

I also successfully used the webinstall feature to update an install of 2.0RC3 to RC4--worked great!

Now I am trying to test the webinstall feature to convert a 1.12 install to 2.0RC4, before I do that on my live site.  I enter my ftp credentials where prompted, and I get the errors generated from line 686.

???

Not to beat a dead horse Jim... but there is some problem with that file causing these 'line 686' errors. ;)

I just started having the same - EXACT same - problems as this op and never had any trouble with it before that.

I won't flood the board with new problem reports when the same one has been reported. I'll keep an eye on this one.

I really don't think anyone is working on Webinstall presently.  All of the developers are spending any time they have trying to get 2.0 ready for the final release.  At some point this tool will be worked on again I'm sure.  Until then, installing manually is the best way.
