Help with packages, symlinks?

So I am having trouble when I try to upgrade my forum, or install any package for that matter.

I get errors such as this

*************

Installations actions for "SMF 1.0.20 / 1.1.12 Update":
Installing this package will perform the following actions:

1.   Execute Modification   /services/webpages/e/s/mysite.com/public/esr/index.php   Test failed

***********

Now if I go to my hosts file manager it does not show the esr directory. Instead I believe it has created a symlink to another location. Most of the files seem to have gone into the /simplelem-content/ directory.

I believe these files need write permission to be able to upgrade, however I can't find them. Anyone have any input or suggestions?

One problem I seem to have is my host gives me the option of Auto Installing it, I choose my directory I want to board to be created in and then it seems like that directory disappears when file browsing, but is able to be accessed via web address. Not to sure what I am doing wrong. Anyone got a suggestion?

Hello there.

Can u give us a link to your forum pls?
U can contact your hosting provider and ask them to point you to the forums root location if you cant find it. We cant actually know which path if forum in.

When u fint index.php, you can modify it manually to finish upgrade as well...

Regards.

You might want to upload and run repair_settings.php (What is repair_settings.php?) and be sure and click on the suggested paths, then save.  Once you do that, try installing a mod or upgrading and let us know what happens.
