Over the July 4th weekend I upgraded from YaBBSE 1.5.5 to SMF 1.1 Beta 3 Public.

I am outlining the steps and mis-steps to help someone else if they choose they same path.

Site statistics;

Total Members:  2355
Total Posts: 111773
Total Topics: 14061
Total Categories: 12

Here are some of my findings;

1. Gender in *_members had to be imported manually. It gets nuked somewhere.

2. You cannot run yabbse_to_smf.php and expect to go directly from YaBBSE 1.5.5 to SMF 1.1 Beta 3 Public. There are table changes introduced in SMF 1.1 Beta 3 Public. For example, there is a column change in *_members -> pm_email_notify which used to be called, im_email_notify. So use the process I outline below.

3. If you set seconds between posts to 120 seconds (the way it was setup on my site) it breaks Firefox and you find that people logging in cannot post for 2 minutes - even if they just logged in and had not posted anything. Lower the value and things start to work again. The Firefox on PC I tested brought up a blank screen after login and also, after logout.

4. Be sure to copy across your old Smileys */YaBBImages/* as they are directly named in older posts.

So here is what worked for me (and hopefully this will help someone else),

1. Backup your data. Pick whatever method works for you.

2. Install SMF 1.0.5

3. Copy across avatars and old Smileys */YaBBImages/* to new installation.

4. Run the yabbse_to_smf.php to load your boards into your new SMF 1.0.5 installation.

5. Only after this can you load the SMF 1.1 Beta 3 Public upgrade source into your SMF 1.0.5 installation.

6. Run the upgrade.php script and then delete it.

7. Copy across your old gender column from the *_members database. (I run a site where gender *is* important).

BTW, I also customized the default template to match my old site.

Hope that helps someone,

Michael.

That converter script is for SMF 1.0.5, not for 1.1 beta's. You can use upgrade method:

1. Backup all
2. upload  unpacked upgrade package to your Yabbse root and overwrite all files
3. run upgrade.php
4. enjoy

If you wanna install with converter (what leaves your YabbSE untouhed), do this:

1. install 1.0.5 in different folder than your YSE
2. run converter script
3. upgrade to 1.1 beta3p
