I have installed SMF 2.0 RC4, so far all seems ok, How do I get access to the "Admin Control Panel"? during the initial setup I did create a database Password, but not been asked for this as yet.

I need to change the time setting to UK time
I need to add  further Category/s
I also would like to know is the Administrator who can remove "posted messages that causes offence" Just think about when I am on holiday.

Once the install is complete... go to the forum and there will be an [Admin] button in the menu... pretty much everything you need will be there.

I have done as yiu suggested Masterd, I then get the following on view from withing the SMP form (mine).

Is this correct? dor I use an existing username and password or create a new one?

during the install you were asked to create an admin account... use that info

stampman

I will give that a try, as a point of interest I don't have an admin button - I thought I had completed the installation of the SMF.

you have to be logged into the admin account to see the admin button

Getting on well now thank you - currently checking all the various setting options. One thing in the top right corner It still has : "SMF - Just Installed" at what stage does this go or do I have to delete it?

ACP > Configurations > Current Theme. Uncheck activate random news.

Illori

or admin -> news and newsletters and edit the text to what you wish to show.

Thanks for both those answer, both help, I am a little confused about :-

Redirect to a web address:
Enable this option to redirect anyone who clicks on this board to another web address.

Does checking this box allow website address to be added to help with answering questions, by directing them to a website address = if so I think I will need to tick this box - any advice on this.

you mean in the screen for making a board? when someone clicks on that board instead of seeing posts they go to whatever that link is.

stampman

Thanks for that, It's not what I thought it was.

Is it possible to change the main name at the top of the forum page, (that I created) I feel I should have added another word, this may not be possible at this late stage.

Fantastic Illori, you and other have been of great help. I will give it a few tests tomorrow, adding myself as a member and trying the registration system. With luck I can go live next week. I am assuming that I will be able to delete any test entries I add tomorrow, so it tidy when we start off. Is there any thing I have to lock to prevent other from upsetting the system.

It is always better to have a seperate test site for future test purposes.

stampman

That could be tricky for me, setting up a duplicate site. I will limit my tests and see if I can delete them afterwards. I assumed that any postings could just be deleted so long as I login as Administrator.

Thanks

You can either delete it or just maintain it. Just make the current board as special board where only admin can access and view. Create another board for your members. It also good to have admin board where admin can talk to each other.

stampman

Thanks for that, it seems a good idea. Will do

Can I edit the welcome letter that's received after a member registers on the forum?

Yes. If I am not mistaken, you can change the default one in this file: EmailTemplates.english.php

stampman

I have had a really good look but can't find it.

Thanks, found it and that's sorted. I must be getting to the end of questions,

I have now set up an Admin board as you suggested earlier:-

Just make the current board as special board where only admin can access and view. Create another board for your members. It also good to have admin board where admin can talk to each other.

I am having problems setting it so only Administrators can access it, the print out I have done shows "Allow for regular members" but nothing for Guests, Global Moderator or Moderator. I expect I need to (somehow) set Global Moderator and Moderator only. Any help/advice (I have installed SMF 2.0 RC4)
Using SMF 2.0 RC4

Illori

when you edit the board assign it to no member groups and it will be admin only

stampman

I thought I had sorted it but the print out show the following (if you can see it).

Normally you set board permission at board settings page ACP> Forum > Board not at permission page. As Illori said at board settings page, unchecked all other groups.

stampman

Hi sorry for time to get back, lunch etc – It was correct, I have only just noticed that a login in administrator makes it on view, but Login as a normal user it's not on display. That's fine.

I am aware that I must not remove :-

From the foot of each page,  is it possible for me to add a further line and include the following under the above? :-
© 2010, mysite

One final question (I hope) how does a member change to being moderator?

Do I as the administrator have to add his name manually in some way ?

It's more than likley a Newbie will become a moderator.

Am I correct is saying a Global Moderator is the same as a Moderator?
