After creating a file named /public_html  I FTPed the SMF install files to my host via FileZilla.  I've CHMODed the designated (per the how-to sections) on applicable files to 777.  Still not able to see anything when I type in my domain name or domain name with /forum nor /forum/install.php nor /smf   nothing - what did I do wrong now?  Any thoughts?

Thanks!
Jan

Please stop creating topics for every problem.

You must have done something wrong when FTPing. Did you upload your files to a public_html folder, or www folder?

this is your 3rd thread for the same problem

anyways, you say you created a file public_html?

or did you create a folder named that.

that folder should already exist, you shouldn't have to create it.

unless of course you deleted the original....
keep smiling, they'll always wonder what your up too.....

If someone is that stupid to do that I plug the USB stick of our mouse in my nose.

sawz - yes this is my 3rd plea for help for the problems I'm experiencing while attempting to install but because it seems I've gotten this far I thought this was a different stage of the problem, hence the third post.

I created a public_html folder as there was not one that existed.  The host company deleted all previous uploaded files because I was experiencing problems.  Could this mean I downloaded the wrong install version from SMF initially?

And, Yoshi2889, I thought this was a help community where people seeking help could ask questions freely without getting bashed - it is tough being a newbie and struggling with issues when there are so many in this community with vast knowledge of how this whole thing functions.
My apologies if I've peeving people with my inexperience, just trying to learn as I go.

It wasn't meant directly at you, it was directed at everyone.

Even I make mistakes (well, not little ones, but....).

Normally your host would not delete the public_html folder.  What company are you using as a host?  Do you have cpanel or Plesk or something else as your hosting control panel?

Please don't create additional topics until you have successfully installed your forum.  It is much easier for us if you confine all the steps/questions in one topic.

Take a look at the information linked in my signature about installing SMF.  It will help with understanding some of the basics.
