1.1.11 -> 2.0 RC 4

Hello webmasters, developers,

As we having a pretty active forum i'd like to upgrade from 1.1.11 to 2.0 RC 4 (apparently there were some memory leaks in the 1.1 version - my vps crashed almost daily ?)
Anyway, i truly hope to be able to upgrade (or reinstall?) to RC 4.0 but i really need to keep all the messages, users, privatemessages, etc etc ... how should i do this the best way ?
Can i just do a clean install with linking to the known database ? Or should i make a new database and then import all the data ? With this new version are the friendly urls preserved as they were in 1.1 ? or will google get 404 errors ... ? I currently have some mods installed but they may just be deleted, I'll reinstalll them after the new version is put online, that's no problem.

To be short: My biggest concern is to keep all the data, but I'd prefer to delete all the old source files and start with a very fresh RC 4.0 install. Can somebody explains me how i should do this the best way ?

as said many times if you searched, download the large upgrade package upload all the files in it to your server and then run upgrade.php. be sure to do a database backup first in case something goes wrong. for support on your mods check their support threads and ask questions there.
