I have had smf forums running for a little while, but a week or two ago I started getting database errors ! As I said I have had smf forums running for a little while now, but they will no longer run! I did a fresh install, but I cant even install a fresh copy of smf, it will no longer even get past the setup page, it just says the following !

Critical Error!

Cannot connect to the database server with the supplied data.

If you are not sure about what to type in, please contact your host.
Access denied for user   xxxxxxx  (using password: YES)

I have seen on this board and on other places, SMF DOS reports. Just wondering is it not yet possible to install smf at the moment ?

I have tried phpbb, mybb, and a few other boards, they all install and function while smf does not ! I prefer to use smf as I really do like its functions. But at the moment I am not able to use smf!

Just wondering what to do next ?

Did you make sure that you entered all the right database information when installing Smf? if you are not sure, please ask your host for those details.

Hiya cicka, I already had a couple of smf forums up and running, I had these running for months. But one day day I started getting database errors on them ! I tried to to a fresh install, but I can no longer get smf running ! I can install phpbb and mybb and others with no problem, but I can no longer run smf !

A few friends who also have smf forums have had the same problems, I did read some place that smf forums were having dos problems !!

Welcome to SMF.

The error you posted tells you exactly why SMF can not install.  The data you provided will not let SMF connect to the database.  It's that simple.  The access denied tells you even more.

Take a look at the installation documentation linked in my signature and pay particular attention to the database user and password.  Also make sure the database user has all privileges for the database.

Did you change anything at the database? because if you did not and you keep getting those conenction error messages then it could be that your host has problems with their servers. At least that has been the case with my forum when those errors happen without me touching the database.

Hiya, I have just installed smf as I always have done, I had smf running for ages, but the last couple of weeks I started getting databse errors! I have wordpress and phpbb all up and running smoothly. I will keep trying, I have been installing smf forums for ages, but for some reason smf will no longer run smoothly. I just cant understand it, but I really am determined to get the forum up and runing !  :'(

cicka brings up a good point.  Has anything changed lately in your host environment?  Can you link us to a phpinfo sheet?  (What is phpinfo.php?)
