I am trying to set up a mirror forum on another host in preparation for moving the forum/domain to a new server/host.

My existing forum which is working OK is here: http://irishtaxi.org/forum/ [nofollow]
The mirror forum which isn't is here :http://www.irishtaxiadvertising.com/forum/index.php [nofollow]

I uploaded the database to the mirror server  using PHP my admin as instructed in a tutorial here and everything seems fine
I uploaded all the public files via FTP to the mirror server along with repair_settings.php, followed the instructions again (setting permissions to 755, discovering absolute paths and filling them into the form etc)

But the links on the mirror forum continue to refer back to the original and lots of images/details are missing

Sorry if above is stupid I'm very much a newbie, all help is appreciated

Are you using Pretty Urls ?

repair_settingsphp is a script designed to help with moving servers.

pretty Urls is installed ... I'm not  sure if it's enabled or not, might it be the issue?

Just checked pretty URLs is installed and enabled

Hi, try running repair_settings.php again. Do click on all of the recommended paths to change them.

Also repair_settings.php doesn't correct all theme paths properly. So go into the Admin CP > Themes > Theme Settings and correct the paths there. There's a button at the bottom of the page.

If at first you don't succeed, use a bigger hammer. If that fails, read the manual.

I cannot log in to the mirror site as cliclkng login sends me to the s=current one which is working fine, however if I do manage to get that far I will take your advice and change those settings , thanks

I tried uninstalling pretty URLs in the working forum with the intention of once again downloading the updated public files and uploading them to the mirror site however it recommended the following:

Lainaaf you don't intend to reinstall this mod, you should consider using the Reverter package, which will redirect your pretty URLs back to the normal SMF URLs. This should be considered essential if your forum has been indexed by search engines, or if your pages have been linked to from other websites. You can download the Reverter package from the Pretty URLs project home page.
Note: to install the Reverter package do not remove the database settings, tables and .htaccess file.

do i use the reverter package before after or instead of uninstalling pretty URLs

PS Only the board URLs have been rewritten by the package

Illori

you can run repair_settings.php without being able to login which should fix some of the issues.

I would think that you would need to run the reverter before you copy the files to your mirror site.  That mod adds lines to your .htaccess file and hopefully the reverter removes those.  As always, the author of the mod is the best one to ask those questions to.

Links point to old domain after moving forum¶

This is very simple to fix, in addition to updating all the other settings with repair_settings.php, this mod has one more setting to fix. You can either manually fix the pretty_root_url setting yourself, or else create a new .php with this code:

<?php
require_once(dirname(__FILE__) . '/SSI.php');
require_once(
$sourcedir '/Subs-PrettyUrls.php');
updateSettings(array('pretty_root_url' => $boardurl));
pretty_update_filters();
?>
