In SMF under server settings the first config called "core configuration" where your mysql database info is. there is a field Webmaster email address under forum title.
Make sure that is the same email address as the godaddy smtp relay email address or go daddy will block it.
I've opened a couple tickets with godaddy.  I'm waiting on it.

This is what I get from my forum error log when I use the @hotmail.com

LainaaRan into problems sending Mail. Error: 553 sorry, your mail was administratively denied. (#5.7.1)

Woo hoo! I got mine fixed. Here are the details. I hope it works for you all.

I entered my GoDaddy email address in the Core Configuration as previously noted.

Mail Type: SMTP

SMTP port: 80
I followed the link from the Email Client Settings help file where I found the SMTP Server (next line). Here's the link to that file:  http://help.godaddy.com/topic/169/article/319?isc=appemail40  Then I started working through the Outgoing (SMTP) port settings under the 'Without SSL' list which gave me the following choices: 25, 80, 3535, 587

SMTP Server: smtpout.secureserver.net
This comes from the >Help >Email Client Settings when logged into your email account on the Go Daddy web email site.

I used my email username and password.

It's working for me when I email a newsletter to my home email and when requesting password help.

Hope it works for you guys. Maybe also try the SSL outgoing SMTP port 465.

Excellent!  Port 80 did it.  :D

Thank You

Hi Guy's I'm dealing with this VERY frustrating issue since about a week ago. Go Daddy has been no help and blames SMF. I want to make sure I have your instructions correct.

#1- go to feature configuration underf server settings

#2- set the SMTP server to smtpout.secureserver.net

#3- set the port to 80

#4- Set SMTP user name to the Admin's email address

#5- Fill in Admin's email password

SAVE

Correct???

mouse92im

I'm going to try the same...  (Fingers Crossed)

mouse92im

SWEET!  It works!!!   Testing out for errors now... Thanks!  I'll mark mine as solved as well.

Thanks!

Doug Varrieur

It did'nt work for me, not sure why....also be aware that in SMTP you're limited to 250 relayed emails per day compared to 1000 in PHP

Use the email address and password associated with the Go Daddy host site. You have to set that up first and I think it takes a little bit (90 minutes) before it's active.  So for my account, I setup an email via the Go Daddy site  as [email protected]. Once that's active, that's the email addy and password you use in the Server Settings section.

Also, you need to confirm your smtp outgoing server from my instructions above once you have the email account setup.

Make sure that email addy ([email protected]) is in the Webmaster Email Address of the Core Configuration page (I missed that the first 20 times I tried).

Finally, port 80 worked for us but it may be one of the others for you.

Report back with your success or failure.

OK, here's the result....I'm getting most but not all new member joined notifications, NOT getting and auto topic responses and NOT getting a welcome email when I signed up a test account using my e mail.

Error log says, "Couldn't get mail server response codes"

What do you think?  One note, I'm using a theme and have been using it for a year that does'nt list 1.1.12 as a compatable version of SMF I wonder if others with this same issue are using the same theme? Here's the theme I'm using- http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=804

I installed it when I was 1.1.11 version    any thoughts?

But I'm not getting any notifications

Thanks for your help

I'm at the point where it's time to move the site to a different host!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm looking for one now, if anyone has any suggestions.

Illori

post on the proper board and i bet many hosts will give you quotes for what you need.

Doug Varrieur

I agree, heading for the hosting board now!

not sure what we're doing wrong. we've done everything that you guys have stated above yet we still get the "Couldn't get mail server response codes"  error. We're running 1.1.11 which I viewed the change log from 1.1.11 to 1.1.12 and i didn't see anything related to email config file changes. We're using shared hosting with godaddy. Our settings are as follows:

Mail Type: SMTP
SMTP port: 80
SMTP Server: hxxp:smtpout.secureserver.net [nonactive]
Username: [email protected]
Password: mypassword

Webmaster Email Address of the Core Configuration page: [email protected]

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Whats strange is that this use to work just fine prior to Jan of 2011 with the default setup from the SMF install (php i think). All I had done was entered an email address which was a [email protected] address originally and it just worked. All of a sudden one day it stopped working. Since i didn't change my SMF install, must have been a godaddy change???

SeaChaser

I am not experienced at this so I can't be of much more help. Add to that, my forum is very new and wasn't around in December so I don't know of any changes at Go Daddy but I think I read in somebody's post that problems started occuring in Dec.

Did you confirm that your outgoing mail server is smtpout.secureserver.net ?

Did you try the other ports that were suggested for that server (25, 80, 3535, 587)? 25 did not work for me. 80 did. I never tried the others.

Sorry that I can't be of more help.

One thing additional that I did was I turned my spam to very low on my godaddy [email protected].  I don't know if that helped because I had changed it while still having the wrong settings.

Also I think someone else in here said that they had to use a different smtp server.  smtpout worked for me.

Yes that just stopped working cause they upped security due to having tons of spammers.  Now we have to find the settings that work.  I'm still going to look into not having to relay my emails but 250 is plenty for my not so active boards but not so good for a very active forum.

seachaser,
thank you for responding. yes, i double checked the outgoing smtp server within the help menu of the godaddy email section. it is indeed hxxp:smtpout.secureserver.net [nonactive]. I wonder why I have read multiple places that their relay server is hxxp:relay-hosting.secureserver.net [nonactive].
I have checked my relay setting within account manager on godaddy which is set to 250. I have tried using no credentials as I have read others have had success with that but to no avail. I've tried all the ports in the list even the ssl one.

I wonder if the default SMF PHP mail works for anyone who hosts at godaddy or do you have to use SMTP option within SMF settings if you host on godaddy?

*******ALMOST but not there yet*********
Our SMF 1.1.11 settings are as follows in conjunction with a godaddy shared hosting package:

Mail Type: SMTP
SMTP port: 25
SMTP Server: hxxp:relay-hosting.secureserver.net [nonactive]
Username:
Password:

Webmaster email address in core config: [email protected]

The above settings appeared to work for some PM's as well as some topic replies but now my admin is informing me he's getting errors again in his log file.

fsockopen() [<a href='function.fsockopen'>function.fsockopen</a>]: unable to connect to hxxp:relay-hosting.secureserver.net [nonactive]:25 (Connection timed out)
File: /home/content/m/a/j/majormeat/html/clanforums/Sources/Subs-Post.php
Line: 973

Could not connect to SMTP host: 110 : Connection timed out

This is so frustrating. Any suggestion besides checking with godaddy? Just curious.
