Need help with installing personal forum

Hi,

I am trying to set up a forum for me and a few of my friends so that we can communicate and collaborate on a project.

The install went smoothly, the only problem I am having is getting the forum to show up on my website without attaching /index.php to the end.

My website is hxxp:smartwirelessnow.com [nonactive]

In order to get to the forum, I currently have to go to hxxp:smartwirelessnow.com/index.php [nonactive]

During the install I set the forum URL to: hxxp:smartwirelessnow.com [nonactive]

Is there a way to do this besides setting my domain to redirect to hxxp:smartwirelessnow.com/index.php [nonactive]  ?

I am using SMF 2.0 RC4 on a LAMP server.

I realize this is a probably a very Noob question to ask, but any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

if your server is configured correctly it should pick up index.php as a valid start page automatically.

Hi,  and welcome to the forum!

What Illori says is correct.

Most browsers, now, (In fact, it may be all of them) automatically look for index.php, or index.html, or even main.html, if you don't put them in.

Heck, you don't even need the "www." on sites that have that.

So, if you go to http://smartwirelessnow.com your browser will always look for index.php, even if you don't stipulate it.

Ok, I cleared my browsing data in chrome and that seemed to fix the problem. It seems chrome was still showing me the default.html that my host provided, after clearing the data I now go right to the forum.

Also, so I don't have to start a new thread:

During the install I gave SMF full database privelages to the mySQL database, now that it is installed, should I reduce it's privelages? If so, what privelages does it need to function normally?

Well since you haven't seen it asked, maybe it is not that important...

I guess I will just leave it as is, unless someone can shed some light on the pros/cons of the forum having all privelages vs. a limited set.

i would leave all privileges as is, you never know when you might want to install a mod and it needs certain permissions on the database to add the tables or change what is there already. why change a working system when it is working? dont forget now that you got it working to grab a database backup just incase something happens. How do I backup my database?

Illori is correct.  Once you set the database privileges, there is no reason to change them.  If this is solved, please mark it solved by clicking the Mark Topic Solved link at the bottom left.
