Having issues after going from RC2 to RC4

For some strange reason (for the first time since I have been a member and used SMF) my board keeps saying its in maintenance mode.

My site itself has been down for around 3 months, and I recently had to migrate to a new host.  Fortunately enough the host I moved to was the same host my OLD hosting provider used so they were just able to transfer everything for me.  The reason I am saying this is because I want to throw everything out there that has changed recently.

Well, since getting the site back online (yesterday actually) i have had 0 issues, and all my members are so happy they do not have to resign up or lose anything. . . however I decided to clean some things up, and upgrade and now I am having issues (which is why I posted this here instead).

Here is the list of mods I had (and still do) pre RC4.

1. Treasury 2.02 [ Install Mod ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
2. Stop Spammer 2.2 [ Install Mod ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]

4. Anti Spam! 1.1 [ List Files ] [ Delete ]

6. SMF 1.0.19 / 1.1.11 Update 1.0 [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
7. Downloads System 1.2.6 [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
8. Aeva ~ Auto-Embed Video & Audio 7.0 [ Install Mod ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
9. Favicon 1.2 [ Install Mod ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
10. Ventrilo Status 1.0 [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
11. reCAPTCHA for SMF 0.9.6 [ Install Mod ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
12. Custom Profile Field Mod 3.20 [ Install Mod ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
13. Custom Form Mod 1.6 [ Install Mod ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
14. SimplePortal 2.3.3 [ Uninstall ] [ List Files ] [ Delete ]
15. Redirection Boards 2.01 [ List Files ] [ Delete ]

The first change I made, was I deleted alot of old boards that were not being used.
After that I had salvaged boards which I indeed tried to delete as well.  Was having issues getting rid of some of them (had errors about topic missing parent board or something) but thought I got it fixed.

After that I upgraded to RC4 and my theme was broke (stonecurve).  I downloaded the latest stonecurve and bam, that was fixed.  I went into maintenance mode, and ran all the tasks and all was fine.

I get up today and go to my site just to see that it tells me the site is in maintenance mode.  I logged in and noticed immediately that some of the images were fubared. (see attached image).

I also noticed the salvage board were back and when trying to delete them again I got the following error:

Board structure corrupt: unable to find parent board

While trying to run a repair I got a bunch of these:

# Topic #187 is in board #70, which is missing.
# Topic #203 is in board #70, which is missing.
# Topic #205 is in board #70, which is missing.

I went into the settings and unchecked maintenance mode, but my question is why was the theme working fine last night but not now. . . the boards I deleted gone, but not now. . . and why was maintenance mode turned on without me turning it on.

No one else has admin on this site, and ive managed to get rid of the boards once again.  It seems at the time of me making this post all is well, but am curious as to what may have caused this or if I did anything wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Matthew K.

That's very odd for sure...can you take it out of maintenance mode through the Admin panel or is it stuck there?

deciph3red

as stated in my previous post I had to manually take it out of maintenance mode.  Im still having the issue with the themes and salvage boards though.  I also noticed the upgrade only includes 2 themes and inside of my maintenance  menu when I check files versus new version is says my templates are RC3 even though I have never used it.  I manually uploaded all the themes from the zip in the upgrade but still no avail.

I would suggest running the Large Upgrade again.

10-4 I will update this post with my results.

Reinstalled it, and also reinstalled simple portal (this time actually allowing it to modify the themes unlike last time) still with the same results.

Would this most likely be a simple portal issue, or a SMF issue?

I would suggest running repair_settings.php as it sounds as if you may have some theme path info that is wrong.

What is repair_settings.php?

Now since you are able to get into admin go to admin->themes and layout-> (look for "attempt to reset all themes")->select to repair all themes and save etc.

The repair tool only resets the default theme, since you are using a custom, just wondering if you have done this since the move?
PM at your own risk, some I answer, if they are interesting, some I ignore.

Done.  Still nothing.  I changed themes and tried portamx instead of simple portal and am having issues with that as well (frontpage not working, redirecting straight to forum, and board news not working as a block).

Im wondering if my entire installation is fubared. . . . all worked fine before the upgrade though.

I will say I recall changing something in the templates ages ago because CustomForm mod wasnt working (something about a ; being in the url i think) but shouldnt that have been overwritten, or would it even cause the problem.

Hey,

Re-install your simpleportal, than onces its all setup, go into /Themes/Default/CSS/portal.css

Copy that too your custom themes /css folder. This is how I solved all my custom theme issues.

Im still having the issue with the salvaged boards.  I can delete them fine, but once I run maintainence it gives those errors posted above.

EDIT:  Seems sometimes it cannot find parent board and delete the salvage boards sometimes, and other times it seems I cannot even delete regular posts without getting that error, however the post does get deleted.

Hi,
I got the same problem on one of my forums :
In Settings.php, the line
$maintenance = '0'; has disappeared.
Even if I wrote it again, or if i tried all the possibilities ( = 0 or = 1 or = 2), the forum was still in Maintenance Mode.
Even also on the administration board if I unchecked the box Maintenance Mode (Menu "Configuration", "Paramètres du serveur" (in French), "Réglages", "Activer le mode maintenance"), the forum was still in Maintenance Mode.

When I set repair_settings.php , and just click on the first choice "Maintenance Mode : Off (recommanded)", the maintenance mode was skipped. Perhaps because of the '0' instead of 0 ?

For me, this problem is solved, thanks for your suggestion  :)

I just had to move the salvage boards.  Thinking about doing a fresh install.

I can backup the users and posts in the database, and just install rc4 then restore them right. . . which tables are those.

My calendar is not working either (says invalid year) so im just thinking a fresh install would be my best bet.

Ideas?

Illori

to fix your calendar issue you just need to add a few years to the max year in the admin panel.

Did you delete the topics in the boards before deleting the boards?  If not, you might try that to see if that corrects the issue.  If you have already completed the upgrade to RC4 you should be able to use the files from the large upgrade and not run the upgrade.php and have clean files to work with.

It might be a good idea to concentrate on getting the forum running before adding a portal of any kind.

well there are 250 topics in the salvage board now.  I tried deleting one and got the same error (unable to find parent board).

JimM

Any update on this issue?  Are you still having the problem after deleting some boards?  Have you run the forum maintenance, specifically the find and repair errors?

everytime I delete anything and run forum maint it comes back.

Just finally got everything deleted again, and havent ran maint again yet because i dont want to re arrange the salvage boards again.

JimM

I read back through your topic.  Can you provide a link to your forum?  Your salvage boards, are they set up as your recycle boards?  Do you still require assistance?

Thats a very good question.  I think they may be. . . let me mess around with that and ill post back.

In the meantime I have done a few more installs of SMF rc4, and have determined the issue with the themes is strictly isolated to simpleportal.

deciph3red

Welp, wanted to give you guys an update.  The issue seemed to be the recycling board.   Once I Recreated it and ran the repair and deleted the category plus all the boards under it with no issues.

However, the theme issues with simpleportal are still there.  Ill post over there to try and see about getting it resolved.
I have portamx and have always liked it more. . . but still may end up doing a few sites and using both.
