Hi everybody,

First time on forum.

I'm trying to create a forum, and I'm so close - but hitting a wall here :-[ the problem is that Dreamweaver remote info doesn't line up 1:1 with SMF's info fields, and I'm trying to translate. SMF asks for:

Server
Username
Password
Install path

Dreamweaver supplies:

FTP Host
Host Directory
Login
Password

I do note that above the FTP host field in Dreamweaver (when testing server is selected)  there is an "Access"drop down menu, and one of the items is PHP MySQL. is this significant? Up to this point, "none" has been selected.

I've tried any number of combinations here, talked to the fellow who's hosting, but we seem unclear in what we're supposed to enter here. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance for any help!

George

Server = FTP Host
Username = Login
Password = Password
Install path = Host Directory (The place where your forum is. It normally detects it automatically for you.)

Makes any sense..? :o

I'm getting this message right now:

550 /vhosts/raa.ca/httpdocs/Forum/smf: No such file or directory

That help?

No joy. :(

I can't help but wonder if it's in the server name. Are such names usually preceded by an "http://" or an "ftp://" or  just a particular set of words chosen by the server operator?

I gather "Server" and "FTP Host" are the same thing?

Very frustrating. I'm so close I can taste it, and yet...

Perhaps a description of how I went about this might shed some light:

-existing Dreamweaver built site, hosted on a personal computer in Ontario, Canada
-I created a folder for forums, downloaded SMF to my computer, and put the SMF folder inside of the forums folder
-Using Dreamweaver's ftp connectivity, uploaded a copy of the Forums folder with the SMF folder inside of it to the remote server
-proceeded with the install
-hit a wall when it came to setting CH Mod permissions. I tried doing it through Dreamweaver's files panel but the changes don't take for some reason.
-when proceeding with the install, a page comes up for FTP connection information. This is what I can't get past; and I gather that once I have, I'll be able to set my permissions and then set up the forum.

I've talked to the fellow who's hosting the site, but what he's giving me isn't doing the job. I keep getting messages:

some say login is incorrect
others say the install path is incorrect.

Does this help anyone? Thanks in advance for any wisdom that might be shed on this.

Ok, so if you wanted to go to your website, then what would the url look like? Is it subdomain.domain.com, or do you have an normal domain?

Allso if you succees installing the forum, what would the url to the forum look like? Would it be yourdomain.com/forum or anything else?

First off, get yourself a good FTP client like FileZilla and use it to upload the files to your server.  Take a look at the installation instructions linked in my signature and you shouldn't have a problem installing your forum.  Others have had issues with Dreamweaver!
