rc3 to rc4 upgrade

befor i start my upgrade i will test it on a another server.

this is what i have done:

so i save my smf-forum per ftp and save the database with phpmyadmin.
i put all to another server
the database is 37MB so i use mysqldumper
i change all pathes to new server

so my forum work with 1600 members and 44000 threads on the new server work.

i delete all mods
i put the small update to rc4 and the german-utf8 language files on the server.
then i start the upgrade.php


the upgrade start, then i have a error:

so i look on the server
and find
max_execution_time : 30 sec

the hoster cannot change the value

is the max_execution_time : 30 sec the problem i had?
what can i do now?

Did you tried that step again? How about Upgrade instead of the Update package?

i halded on always on the the place.


i had 2.0 rc3
and use

How exactly did you tried to update?

i use the small update because its called:
"Using SMF 2.0 RC3? This small package will get you up to speed."



this files i unzip
and put it on the server with filezilla

then i start the upgrade.php on server with firefox

the upgrade start and stop then with the error i write

You need to replace the language files first. Did you tried to contact your host?

i put the upgrade pack first on the server and then the language pack ?
that can make trouble???

my hoster say i should buy another paket, then i can change the max_execution_time

this is the hoster i will test the upgrade first, befor i make a upgrade with my real site.
he will sell a bigger server.

it sounds like your host is not setup to really allow smf to run correctly, and if you can get the upgrade to work on their servers you may face issues in the future. you may want to start looking for a better host with less restrictions.

i think it is better to test the upgrade on an server from the same hoster i use my smf in real.

yes that is best but if your host is not setup correctly to the upgrade you will run into issues in the future.

i do a last try and now it work

the upgrade finished successful.


two things i change
1:
i put the language files on the server first
then i put the large upgrade files on the server

2:
i controll the setting.php with a windows editor
and i see there is something wrong with ansi and utf-8
i save the file with utf-8 again and put it on the server.


then i start the upgrade and it works fine.
