SMF 1.1.12 installation/password

I have just installed SMF and configurred my board.  I logged out to reboot and now that I try to log in, I keep getting the password is incorrect.  I'm the only one on the board at the moment as Admin and also I signed up as a regular member, neither names/passwords will work.

I installed from my server conrol panel ....fantastico and all was working fine until I logged out

Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be?  Thanks in advance.

I have just found out PART of  the problem is.

On the login page there is a 'Minutes to stay logged inn:  in the box is a figure.  If I have a number there, and the box ticked Always stay logged in, I cannot get into my board.  I get information the password is incorrect, which it is not.   If I leave the number box blank and untick the box I can access the board just fine.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.  I have tried logging in up to about 5 times and suddenly on the 6th it lets me in.  This is quite bizarre to say the least!

Now can someone please advise me what is happening with this as I've never come across it before.
Is it something within the SMF programming?

Hello.
As you just installed smf, i would suggest to reinstall it, but with manually installation instead of fantastico installation.
I cant say what problem is, but if you dont have members or content on forum, i would rather reinstall it like i said, than to search for what problem is. (it can even be fantastico installer side problem)

Dzonny is correct.  Fantastico is known to have issues.  Installing your forum manually doesn't take long and you will have a great feeling of accomplishment after you are done.  Instructions are linked in my signature.
