Ive just installed pack found here:
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/downloads/smf_patch_2.0-RC4_security.zip

After that i notice that copyright still have "Powered by RC4" and not RC5.
Is that ok, or im doing smth wrong?

Illori

looks like a small error in the upgrade package. I would not worry about that at this time as long as you have installed the upgrade.

AST3R1X

Thats right.  You have installed the security patch for RC 4 not the RC 5 Upgrade package  :)

Illori

no, this should be the same as the upgrade to RC5, in the same respect that you can use the package manager to upgrade from 1.1.12 to 1.1.13 and the version changes.

Matthew K.

If you used the security patch, you aren't on SMF 2.0 RC5, as it states in the developers post regarding the updates, it is only the big bug fix that was found security wise.

Illori

Well then that will cause problems for many that will look in their admin panel and see that they are not running the most updated version and come to the forum asking why over and over again.

AST3R1X

I think its explained clearly. I understood that straight away before I downloaded I just had to decide which path to choose, RC4 security patch or RC5 upgrade.

Matthew K.

But in reality, they aren't running the most up to date version.
Lainaus käyttäjältä: NorvThe 2.0 RC5 fixes are beneficial and recommended. However as the upgrade process is a hassle for some administrators a security-only patch for RC4 is also being made available. This patch only contains the security fixes, for admins who wish to secure their RC4 forum but may not want to do a complete upgrade. It is a simple package that can be installed quickly via the SMF package manager and should not break any existing RC4 themes and mods.
It's simply a fix for people who are using SMF 2.0 RC4.

Back on topic - topic starter - If you want to upgrade to SMF 2.0 RC5, you'll want to use the RC5 large upgrade package, rather than the rc4 security patch.

It'll only cause problems for those that don't know how to read...

Thanks for your answers.

Just one more question - Am i allowed to change text in copyright to RC5, because i dont want everyone to see that im running RC4 version?
Also, im sorry that RC4 to RC5 need large upgrade. Will 2.0 gold from 2.0RCx also need large upgrade?
I just installed mods on my forum, make some theme, and change dozen things, and i dont want to loose all of them when upgrading. I know that many people have the same attitude, and its big minus that upgrade cant be performed easier.

Thanks for your answers guys once again. :)

Matthew K.

You cannot modify the SMF Copyright in any way shape or form. However you can open index.php and find $forum_version = 'SMF 2.0 RC4'; and change it to $forum_version = 'SMF 2.0 RC5'; which is completely legal.

SlammedDime

And to answer your other question, yes, once SMF 2.0 is gold, it will require one of the Update packs from the downloads page and you will need to reinstall all of your mods.

Not a problem. Glad we could help you :)

texasman1979

i got a small issue.

i successfully installed the rc4 security update no sweat.

the prob is, form what i ahve been reading is that the heavily modified rc4 that i have, i will have to manually copy all the changes over to rc5 cause i didnt know how to make what i have done a mod.

or is there a way around this?

and can in the future, the package manager be made smart enough to install major upgrades as version releses without disturbing user supplied code, if that is even possible?

i would like to remain with the most current version, what method is the best if my mod is not a mod, but i have changed at least 15 files so far. it would be a total pain to manually copy over a couple thousand lines of code. lol

LOGIC is a FOUR letter word! :)

If you installed the RC4 Security patch, through package manager, then your forum is simply RC4 with the security patch installed. It is secured, and you can remain on it if you wish, without worries for security. It is not RC5, and you don't need to do anything anymore (unless you do want to upgrade to RC5, which has other important fixes and improvements as well, besides security).

If you upgrade to RC5 (using an upgrade package from which you have to extract all the files, upload them over your current files, overwriting them, then running upgrade.php), then yes, you would need to re-apply all your custom modifications to the files.
You could also try to make a diff file of your changes, between a RC4 fresh installation and your own forum, upgrade, then try to apply the diff. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diff)

After SMF 2.0 is declared stable, there will not be any more major upgrades, only patches, for all 2.0.x versions to come. However, there will always be major upgrades between versions (like 1.1.x to 2.0), and between unstable versions, because the changes are far too many to make an installable patch out of them.
To-do lists are for deferral. The more things you write down the later they're done... until you have 100s of lists of things you don't do.
