Hello,

I uploaded the .php file and went on to my website "/webinstall.php". Everything was going fine until i could not connect to my "mysql" server (which i e-mailed my host about). But until that gets cleared up i want my site to be online, but that is not the case. It is displaying this message below:

"Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later."

More information (if it helps):
Host: godaddy
I have since deleted the "install" and "webinstall.php" from my main folder.

Please help.

Thank you!

Holy quick response! No i have not tried that yet. Have you seen this happen before?

Also i created my database and waited probably around 2 hours before even trying to set this up via the webinstaller. Could giving it more time allow a connection to successfully occur?

Matthew K.

I have seen connection problems before, of course. Welcome to SMF, by the way! :)

Try running repair_settings.php and see if that helps you.

Thank you!

I have tried it but it is still displaying the connection problem error that i posted above. What would i need to delete to make this go away?

Please note i was never actually able to make a connection with the server through the webinstall (the repair tool was displaying this as a possible problem)

Matthew K.

You uploaded repair_settings.php and ran it with your browser?

phx08

Yes, since then i have deleted the index.php as well (for SM) and not my main link to my website is displaying a 404 error (DOH!)

Matthew K.

It may be smart to upload a fresh set of files. - Making sure to keep your settings.php file.

Also assuming you don't have mods installed.

I use joomla for my website, i am completely new to making a site and stuff. Is there a way to restore everything back to pre- using webinstall for this forum?

Matthew K.

Ah, maybe I misunderstood what you're saying. Have you not even installed SMF yet?

phx08

Nope i hadn't installed them.

After doing a complete restore of the website, I have figured out another way to install at this point.

I appreciate your prompt help

Matthew K.

Not a problem. So should this be resolved or do you have any further questions?
