Hello. I think it is important to upgrade because in the latest versions all the bugs and the security issues found in the older versions are fixed. You can see the below link on how to upgrade your forum.

About the custom skin it will not work with rc 5. For the add ons check their download pages. If there will be any add on who is not upgraded yet to work with rc 5, then you can request that add on coder at the add on support thread if he or she is planning in upgrading his or her add ons.

Note that this will erase all mods that you use, and themes also.
I would suggest to firstly change theme to default, and then perform large upgrade.

About the custom skin it will not work with rc 5.

Themes will work, but you will need to make some template and CSS changes.

Not necessary. Many of the mods at your list have been upgraded for rc 5 too.

The mod files are there in the package manager but will not be reinstalled automatically. That must be done manually. It is like a new forum without any mods installed when you upgraded.

RC upgrades all require that you overwrite your forum files with the updated ones.  There are way too many changes for anything else to be practical.  Because you are overwriting your forum files, your mods essentially get uninstalled.  For the most part, it's just a matter of reinstalling some of them.  Others may require some tweaks from the mod author in order for them to work.
