I'm not sure if I'm explaining this correctly. This is my first Forum to set up.

When I send a message through the Forum, the greeting is "Hecko!"

The theme is set to English. How can I change this?

Sandy

kat

How odd...

First thing to check is this line:

$txt['hello_member_ndt'] = 'Hello';

in index.english.php.

You can find that in the default theme's "languages" directory.

sandysue22

I'm in the default theme>>language directory

There is no index.english.php

All that exists is:
index.php
settings.english.php
settings.spanish_es.php
themestrings.english.php
themestrings.spanish_es.php

I've backed out of that folder and searched some of the others and don't find
index.english.php . Do you have any other idea where that file might be

I think I might email the author. I hope he speaks english....

kat

Trust me. There is.

Your forum wouldn't work, much, if it wasn't there.

Themes>default>languages.

sandysue22

Oh wait...
I wasn't in the default but in the new theme folder--

I'll look again--

sandysue22

That line says:

$txt['hello_member'] = 'Hey,';

kat

[Pantomime mode]

Oh, no it doesn't!

[/Pantomime mode]

That's an earlier line. ;)

sandysue22

You mean, there's another line that says:

$txt['hello_member'] = 'Hey,'

sandysue22

kat

Yep!

Just change 'Hello'; to 'HowdyDoody'; or whatever.

sandysue22

So why am I getting "hecko"

I must have a setting off somewhere. Where exactly is the language choice for mail?

I was almost sure I had that set to english, but maybe not.

I hear ya! User Error! (I use to work for Microsoft. )

That file says "Hello", does it?

Hmm... Let me investigate further...

Does the theme you're using have it's own index.english.php?

Do you have any other index files, such as index.english_british.php, or something?

sandysue22

The Theme I'm using is Cartoon -- It was one of the theme's suggested and downloaded from SMF

Nope, no other index files. The only files in the language folder for the Cartoon theme are:

All that exists is:
index.php
settings.english.php
settings.spanish_es.php
themestrings.english.php
themestrings.spanish_es.php

kat

Just had a thought...

You DID refresh?

You might need to empty your cookies/cache, or summat.

If you're using a proper browser, that's simple.

Dunno about that IE thing, though, coz I never use it and never will. ;)

sandysue22

Is there a way to choose NOT to have the "Hello" automatically inserted?

That wouldn't really help me though, because someone else might use it with the same results.

Oh, me either. I use firefox. I'll give it a try.

sandysue22

Oh, I may have forgotten to mention a biggie.

I just went to try again and see if I get the same results.

I was actually sending a Newsletter>>welcoming all members.

That is when the "hello" was Hecko!

And when I tried to apologize to everyone, since it wasn't appropriate, ( deleted the "hello to member") and it added "Hecko!"

anyway. Before the Date, which I had inserted.

So it isn't as bad as I thought. No one else will be sending Newsletters but me. But still, I can't prevent it from adding "Hecko!" at the beginning.

kat

Newsletter?

Hmmm... I think that might use a different file. Lemme check.

I don't bother with Firefox, either, coz it's to clunky, for me.

Maybe I'm just too old, eh? ;)

kat

Nope. Nothing in there.

What mods do you have, installed?

sandysue22

It's a brand new installation. I haven't installed anything else. Only have 14 members.

Just opened--

kat

I'm not as familiar with SMF v2.x as I am with v1.x.

Let me do a bit of digging.

Won't be long...

sandysue22

Oh sure, no rush.

You know, I went back to look at the message again, since I included myself in the mailing of the Newsletter. I wanted a copy to keep for myself.

Another odd thing>>
In the title bar: I typed: >> My Alzheimer's Support Community: Hello! and Welcome!

The copy that arrived in my inbox says>> RE: My Alzheimer's Support Community: Hecko! and Welcome!

Where the name should be: Hello Sandy! ;;;;;;;;;;;; It says:  Hecko Sandy!

(I wouldn't think typing in the RE: line of an email would have anything to do with language or index files.
More like some kind of joke or something)

It's almost like any place I type "Hello", it changes to "Hecko"

I just hate it, too.

The main reason I chose this theme was the color is perfect for my Website and it blends the two together so well.

kat

I've just figured it out...

In your word censoring, I bet you have "Hell" censored, so it shows as "Heck"...

Maybe you ought to change "Hell" to "Hell " and "Heck" to "Heck "?

sandysue22

Oh my gosh! You are a genius! I absolutely do have that in my list.

I was just looking at new themes and so upset that I had to change. Thank you so much!

Now--if I can find that setting again---- I think I'm too old.........

Thanks a bunch!

sandysue22

All Fixed! I think I'm gonna have to hold off on censoring words for awhile--

Thank you again!

kat

Trust me. You're younger than me.:)

Just call it a flash of inspiration.

I entered "Hello" in the search in my text editor and just went to enter the "o" and it struck me.

If only all errors were that easy to fix, ay? (Especially Windoze ones).

Glad I could help. :)

You can correct this by limiting the sencoring to whole words only I believe, so it won't pick up hell inside other words like hello.
