Upgrading 1.0.7 to 1.1.13

I have been using Godaddy for hosting for a long time. I installed SMF through them many years ago and have a reasonable sized forum now.

I have been wanting to upgrade for a long time, when I tried initially Godaddy said that I hadn't used their installer so they couldn't help me, which wasn't true but who would listen? I struggled with the process a couple of times and each time it went in the too hard basket.

The forum is working well, but I receive up to 300 registrations per day of which there may be 1-3 real registrations. I was hoping that the verification/captcha code on 1.1.13 might help to reduce the administration.

I have installed 1.1.13 and have a back up from 1.0.7.

What do I need to do to get the database up to scratch to use for 1.1.13?

What's the best way to import the database (using Godaddy)?

Has anyone else out there had any experience in moving to 1.1.13 using Godaddy as a host? I'd love to hear from you.

hi,

you want to upgrade your forum or change your host ?

if you want to upgrade, visit this link:

if you want to change your host and upgrade, i think you should get a zipped file from your forum and export your db then install them on other host. so, now you can upgrade to 1.1.13

I have 2 installations at the moment one is the established 1.0.7 and the other is a fresh install of 1.1.13

I guess my question is this:

can I just use the db from 1.0.7 with 1.1.13 without having to modify it?

I believe that there have been database changes, since 1.07.

So, probably not. Especially if you have mods.

You could try it, though, by simply modifying Settings.php to point to the database concerned.

If it all goes squiffy, you can change it back.

Even easier, keep a copy of the file, before you edit it. Then you can always delete it, if it doesn't work, and replace it with the original.

Plus, of course, there's this: http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=663

As long as you backup everything, you can fiddle around, to your heart's content. ;)

Yes, there are definitely database changes between 1.0.x and 1.1.x versions.  My suggestion would be to make a backup of your database and existing forum files, then download the large upgrade package for 1.1.13 and do the upgrade, following the information on upgrading that is linked in my signature.
