Hi All,
i will be changing hosts shortly, and am currently using smf 1.1.13 for my forum,

on changing hosts i was hoping to use a new clean install of smf 2.0rc5,
will the new installation of 2.0rc5 accept the mysql database from the old installation of 1.1.13, or are there likely to be problems by doing this ?

there are several mods running on the 1.1.13 version at present, will this have any bearing on using the original database on 2.0rc5 if these mods are not on the 2.0rc5 version of the forum ?

You can not use the 2.0 RC5 files with a 1.1.13 database, the database should be up to date too. My advice would be to change hosts first and then upgrade your forum.

About the add ons question, the add ons for 1.1.13 will not work on a 2.0. RC5 forum.

1.1.13 databases are not compatible with 2.0 RC5 and vice-versa - you will need to run upgrade.php in order to update it. You will not run into any problems if you have data in the DB from mods that aren't installed - SMF simply won't know that the information is there since it won't have any code telling it what to do with that data.

thanks for the replies,
i was hoping not to have to go down the upgrade path,
as after reading through some of the posts here, it would seem that a lot of users are having problems with the upgrade from the 1.1 series to 2.0rc5
but as this seems to be the only option available it seems that i will have to give it a try,

thanks,
fiesty

Make a backup of your database before you upgrade your forum. In the eventuality that the upgrade will not go as planned you can always revert back without loosing any settings at all.

Please consider marking this topic as solved if you are not planning on doing the upgrade at this time.  Marking the topic solved will remove it from our support queue and then if you need assistance when you do decide to do this you can either start a new topic or unmark this one. :)

well, i decided to go ahead and install 2.0rc5 via the large upgrade path,
and after a couple of failed attempts (and having to reinstall 1.1.13 again) it finally worked  :D

just a few minor things to sort out, but all in all its working fine,
the only real problem i have is that instead of using smf gallery again, i installed the aeva media gallery,
and lost the pics i had on there,
they are probably still in there somewhere, but as yet not figured out how to find and retrieve them :-[

many thanks for all the advice guys,

fiesty,
