How to add meta descriptions to all pages?

There seems to be only some mods to generate meta descriptions for the homepage of a forum.
But how can I add metatag descriptions to all of my category pages and individual topics?
Manually but the best is automatically.

in 2.0, the metatag (<meta name="description" ) is automatically written to every page already.

They don't quite do according to your request, but they will surely help you accomplish something nearly the same.
