Well, I found keycaptcha for smf 1.1.13, and I downloaded it to my computer.  Then I went to package manager which wants me to upload "the file."  But "the file" is actually 14 files, and I can only upload one.  Then I get the error message that its not the proper file type, which must be a zip.  So I don't understand how I am supposed to upload and install those 14 files.
If you download a package ( a .zip -file ) from the mod site, you need not unpack it at all.
You simple upload it through the package manager, and the package manager handles it :)

That's the way I would think it would work.  But when I downloaded the mod, it did not come as a .zip file but instead as 14 files.  So I zipped them into one (archive.zip) and uploaded that, but Package Manager wouldn't allow it.  So KeyCAPTCHA support got my usename and password (a temporary one) from me and installed it on my forum.  I haven't actually seen it, but I have stopped having spambots.  You could check it to see if it works, at http://www.humanianity.com.  (Correction:  I just did log out of my site and tried to register, and KeyCAPTCHA is indeed working.)

This whole thing has been confusing to me.  Somehow what I posted here got on twitter, that I don't even use.

And somehow a war started between this site and KeyCAPTCHA, this site maintaining that the other was spam, but as far as I can tell, the other was what helped me and got it accomplished.

So there is mystery and drama here.  I wish I knew more.

So perhaps I can mark this topic as solved, though there are still unanswered questions in my mind.  Why was this site not able to help me?  Why did the KeyCAPTCHA mod come as 14 files rather than one (zipped) file?  How did they get it installed?  Why couldn't I do it.  How did my posts get on twitter. Etc.

So maybe I'll leave it unmarked as solved for a while longer, in case anyone wants to address the questions.

I cannot answer about zip. It works differently for me from your descriptions and I cannot ask for more details in context of SMF hxxp:twitter.com/#!/KeyCAPTCHA [nonactive]  since I was fired from company for spamming using the name of KeyCAPTCHA and hence blackening it

I'm intrigued about  bots republishing posts from this (and other like hxxp:wordpress.org [nonactive]) forum.
This discussion requires a lot of linked Tweets, posts citing and I cannot insert even one!

So, I tried to post in hxxp:www.v7n.com/forums [nonactive]  (huh, I even not linked this URL and it pisses me off with red color) and it was either deleted as a spam there  or is awaiting moderation for 6+ hours already
Well, since my  post disappeared without any notice it tells me that it was dumped by an anti-spam filter

For example, previous your post was tweeted as:

  • hxxp:escalatebiz.com [nonactive] : Re: Outdated SMF & Bots: So perhaps I can mark this topic as solved, though ... (xxxxxxx)bit.ly/mSk6hU hxxp:escalatebiz.com [nonactive] :
    (xxxxxxx)twitter.com/#!/EscalateBiz/status/65593681868095489
The 2 posts before it

  • "That's the way I would think..." by you
  • by Aleksi "Lex" Kilpinen
were not republished

While, there are Tweets from, for example, other users including ones from , for example, of moderator
  • (xxxxxxx)twitter.com/#!/EscalateBiz/status/63834767866593280
from this thread that was botted

And they are botted not only on twitter but on many spinning spam farms  constantly republishing content.

Is it something inherent to

  • some simplemachines.org (or hxxp:wordpress.org [nonactive], from which forums thay are also being republished) functionalities/comfiguration?
    or
  • to particular users, their client computers (possible infection)?
    or,
  •   since it does not happen for all posts and users, to some keywords
that trigger such republishing ?

How could such republishing have been initiated?
How can it prohibited and/or stopped?

Huh, terrible forum, terrible captcha, terrible distortions, I pity that I started to participate here.
Very unpleasant in all respects
