Upgrading to 2.x

Hey, I would like to know if this upgrade is possible for my website: http://biology-forums.com.

My website has over 63 mods installed and uninstalling them seems very impractical.

--> Moreover, I made many changes to the theme files on my own. Would I simply be able to upload my display.template.php to the server once the update is complete.

--> If I do this over the course of 2 days, will I lose rating on Google (i.e. page rankings) since I get over 20,000 viewers daily.

--> Moreover, I have a wikibridge to my website. Will I have to change anything to that?

The only reason why I'm doing this is because of the paid subscription option on 2.0

Most of those mods simply won't work with v2.

There may, of course, be updated versions of some of them.

The display templates are different, but making the edits you've made should be able to be made to the new one.

Only way to revert to v1.1.13, would be to restore backups of both the software and the database.

Do I have to uninstall all the mods first?

Personally, I wouldn't bother.

All your files will be overwritten, anyway.

After the upgrade, it'd makes sense to delete the mods from the Packages directory, using FTP, though, or they'll just be taking-up space.

Just remember to back everything up, before you attempt this.

As I said, restoring that backup is the only way back to v1.1.13. ESPECIALLY THE DATABASE.

you may want to copy your database to a new database and do a test install of the upgrade if you are unsure you will like the new smf this way you will not effect your other users.

Yeah, those would be way more ideal, how do I do something like that, like a test run? Should I react a subdomain and transfer all the files to it? That would be a hassle though, considering how my website is like 3000+ megs

you dont even need to use a subdomain just any folder that you can access can be used for the test install. you just need to copy over your attachments if you have any and your settings.php file.
