blokr is a new and innovative theme that challenge some of the way a forum usually look and feel like. But, it also has option to turn the new layout off, keeping only the colors.

Screenshots are below, but you can only check it out on the demosite:

If not it will just show a standard "no-avatar" image. :)

Ahh okay then :)

Would the "force choosing avatar on registration" mod work on this theme ?

Not a clue lol, but very few mods will work on it, as the basetheme it will be a subtheme within, is totally rewritten from default theme and use all templates.

You see, my main mission with this and other upcoming themes is to focus on the visuals, mods are not my concern at all. ( as it should have been from the start in SMF but thats another discussion) So..if a mod is to work on this theme project it has to be better and latch itself onto source files instead - not on the template files. Or users will need to add it manually. The new 2.0 hooks are good too. :)

Tanks

Okay, thanks for your answers. The theme looks really great :)

I would have loved to buy it but if no mods are supported then it is not for me. There are at least a few mods that I would not want to miss out on.

bloc

I am not selling themes anymore. Both Blokr and Harmonia will be free themes. But as you say some will value their mods more than the look of their forum, and thats of course entirely up to them.

But do note that I said that any WELL behaved mod that use the hooks in SMF and do not directly modify SMF templates, will work just fine with these themes. THOSE mods are the quality ones, since their developers actually took the time to make room for designers to not worry about if they can actually change a template or not(which is what templates are all about, being changed as part of a new theme.)

Tanks

I agree with you but i would not know if a mod uses a hook or not.

I do value the look of my forums very much but for my next project I would love to use the Facebook connect mod. (I am waiting for 2.0 final)

That your themes are free is very good to hear. I thought you had some premium club, and that would also be fair, since you very clearly spend a lot of time making these beautiful themes.

bloc

I did..but closed it 2 weeks ago. It was never the reason why I was making SMF themes - tbh I feel more free now to try new things and layouts than before. :)

ARG01

Bloc is on a good track reverting to free themes. When selling themes you are expected to be on support duty 24/7 and volunteers tend to avoid offering support for someone else's premium themes. But with free themes your support duties are more flexible because you will always have a few loyal volunteers to help out when your away.
Plus if you offer free themes and not premium themes, you will still get some that want to pay for a unique design, that is, if you are still willing to make a buck once in a while.

Not only support will be flexibler, more people are tend to donate :P

Tanks

Bloc, after giving it some thoughts I have decided that I would love to use your theme for my next project. Guess i can live without mods. :-)

Is this theme far from finished ?

NHWD

It would be really cool if SMF's default layout was like this.
Excellent work Bloc.. You got skills.

Well, yes, but I aim to have the first version working during easter. About mods I will include support for *some* popular mods, so it might not be as bad. :)

Tanks

:-) Good to hear - Enjoy your easter

Any ETA on this project Bloc ?

:) Looking daily to see if anything was released.

bloc

Due to switiching to a new RL job I have less time than expected. But progress is made day by day. :)

Tanks

Congratz with the new job :) I hope you find the time to finish this good looking theme :) My project is on hold until this theme is ready :D

bloc

Thanks, Tanks ;D

It takes some time due to also writing the base theme - but in the end it will be easier and faster for me to create new themes using that.

Antes

well, i know its free theme and we cant ask for release date but

is it possible to give us a release date ?

bloc

I don't have one. :) Its very tied up to the creation of bwTheme so once thats up and running, this theme will be to. I am also working on bwPortal, so its a slow, but steady development.

You can be sure i will announce it as soon as its ready though.(but please don't keep your projects on hold for it)

..the reason i am doing it this way, is that I often enough have rushed out a theme, or not taken the time to make a better base. this time I want to be sure its that. So everytheme has common elements(Mootools menus and upshrinks, grid CSS, simpler SMF classes, easy switching of themes and so on) which i before have put maybe in one theme-  then not in another lol. This I want to get away from. I did it partly with the now retired premium themes, but it still was many separate themes to update, and also they were sometimes very different. All subthemes in bwTheme will be different - but they also share the elements I mentioned above, from a central point within the one custom theme.

Its like a alternative default theme within a custom theme really.

Antechinus

I'm looking forward to checking out how this all works. :)

I have picked up Blokr theme again, after some needed time away. Its now merged with my bwTheme/bwPortal project and will appear as part of that, out later this summer.

The status of SMF 2.0 finally going gold and BSD license being used have inspired me to work on it again. I think SMF has finally reached what it should been ever since 2.0 was started. :)

Antechinus

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! ;D

Will be cool to see what you come up with.

Oh and I wouldn't quite say "SMF has finally reached what it should been ever since 2.0 was started". We're well on the way though and I'm optimistic.

ETA: Off topic: I fgured out the other night how to do your old alternative poll/stats bars on standard Curve markup. Just needs some CSS2 tweaking and people can have whatever style they like.

Mainly the license changes really, template-wise its still some way to go. ;D

The alternative poll/stats bars: great, some will prob. like to try those out occasionally.

Antechinus

Template-wise it's still rather gruesome, but a lot better than 1.1.x. Using CSS3 to its potential will help a lot with that, plus even without that I've thought of some ways of reducing markup and making things more flexible for themers at the same time. We should not have done things like this:

<td class="icon windowbg"', !empty($board['children']) ? ' rowspan="2"' : '', '>

Since we already have this:

table.table_list tbody.content td.icon
{
text-align: center;
width: 6%;
}

The windowbg class only sets a background colour anyway, and makes theming more difficult as it overrides .icon if you would like to customise .icon individually. You can get around that by careful use of css, but it's a PITA that shouldn't be required.

Oh and I might post in Tips and Tricks about a few alternative poll bar ideas. I've used an idea of my own in my update of my variants.

It was destined to be part of a base theme project, but I have gonw away from it and will develop it as a normal theme. Its due though, so it will be released in the coming week(s).

Thanks. :) I love the way SMF has made it possible to use your imagination in coming up with new layouts and designs. Some say PHP in templates are evil, but I would never started with SMF themes if if wasn't for it.

But most of all its just FUN. :)

Paid themes for BBpress? I wasn't aware there were any in existence, actually. They were bloated, you say...in what way was that? *curious*

- blokr is now released.

You can wait for the approval at the SMF theme site, or get it at blocweb:
