Weird Error

My forum has an error that is only affecting the Webmaster priveleged accounts.
The error is:

"Unable to load the 'main_above' template."

All other users can use the forums normally unaffected. I have no idea what could be causing this. I just recently recovered from a hacking and have since upgraded my forums to the latest version and used a backup. I don't know what to do from here, I'd gladly love some support with this issue.

Also recovering from the hacking, the theme was set to default. While I still want to use the original.

Any help would gladly be accepted, I confide in SMF support.

kat

Odd that it's only affecting you, this.

The theme you're using. Is there a file, in it's directory, named index.template.php?

NergalHST

Yes, there is if you want I can give you access if you would like to personally take a look at this troubling error :(.

kat

I'm thinking that it's got nothing to do with your forum, to be honest.

Can you try a different browser and see if it does the same, with that?

NergalHST

I've tried on 4 different computers, aswell as on a mobile phone. Used Chrome, IE, and Firefox.

Illori

can you try running this and only use the part to reset your themes What is repair_settings.php?

kat

That might do it.

I was gonna ask if you switch to another theme, does the error vanish?

Sorry for all the questions, but this is odd.

Although, I was in v1.1.13 mode, at first.

Sorry 'bout that. ;)

NergalHST

I'm not sure, the theme is currently set to default. How could I switch the theme without being able to log in?

Illori

you could also try adding ?theme=1 to your url and see if that helps, if it does not the above linked file should fix it, unless your default theme is having issues.

Yes this works! But now I want to go back to the theme I had before.
I don't want to have to put this "?theme=1" everytime I go to the site.

kat

The theme's index.template.php file.

Is it read-enabled?

Illori

then go into your profile-> look and layout preferences and see what theme you have set, pick what it should be and hope it works again. also verify that your theme works for guests and other members.

NergalHST

Alright so I tried setting it to the previous theme now noone can access the forums at all and http://www.forum.hostellroleplay.net/?theme=1
now does not work.

NergalHST

If one of you could send me a PM? So you can take a quick look at everything?

NergalHST

The theme's index.template.php file is blank? That is where the hackers placed there own page.

NanoSector

So that's why I could not solve it...

Reinstall your theme.

Upload all files in the ZIP package to the theme's directory.

And scan with kb_scan.php (Hint: search forum)

kat

Well, there's your problem, then.

Get a fresh copy from the install archive, upload it and you'll be sorted. :)

NINJAD!

NergalHST

We don't have the original theme. It is based off of a theme but changed. It was made by a friend who has since vanished.
Everything is in place but that file >.<

Illori

you could ask your host if they have a backup of it, you can also check on your server if there is a file with the same name but ending in ~, this file can be renamed and should work just fine.

dont forget to backup once you get this resolved.

kat

You mean he doesn't have a backup, himself?

Have a look in your themes directory, NergalHST.

In there, is there a theme named "Theme1", or something similar, out of curiosity?

NergalHST

I have an old backup of the forums could the file be in there?
or
Would I be better off with a new theme?

Illori

we dont know what is in that backup to tell you if it may be in there. also we dont know what may be customized with your theme, so we cant tell you if a new theme may work on your forum, or fit your needs.

kat

Worth trying the old backup, first, though.

If that doesn't work, you can just put an original in, instead and see how it goes.

NergalHST

But the original was made for SMF 2.0 RC3 not SMF 2.0 RC5

Illori

it may work, at this point it is worth trying it out as you cant loose more then you have right now.

NergalHST

Would a theme change mean I lose everything :o?

Illori

you would just loose your theme and any mods that are installed on the theme would need to be reinstalled.

I wished SMF had a "Install in another theme" option AFTER installing -.-'

Ah well.
You can also add it manually.
