Hi

I got quite a few emails this morning like the following:

from [email protected] <[email protected]>
reply-to [email protected]
to [email protected]
date Wed, Apr 27, 2011 at 7:29 AM
subject kdzIcIcweEY
mailed-by xxx.shr.phx3.secureserver.net

Tuochwdon! That's a really cool way of putting it!

(Some details replaced by xxx for security)

"[email protected]" being my admin email address on my smf forum
xxx.shr.phx3.secureserver.net being where my smf forum is at

The email header ends in --SMF-1f60468929934779dexxxa8e96bcf270-- so I know it's my forum sending me spam and I'm not sure how or what to do about it.

It's a new forum with very few members (2.0 RC5).
Nothing is amiss from the control panel. No members in the wrong usergroup, Nothing sent from the Newsletter section.

Welcome to SMF.  :)

This is usually because it's your e-mail address which has been collected (harvested) by a spammer. These threads should help...

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

I know that spammers can easily spoof email to make it look like they come from anywhere they like and that's the first thing I thought.

But I don't understand why the "mailed-by" is coming from something only used by by smf forum and the headers contain references to smf?
