Dear All,

What is the minimum PHP version for SMF2? Is it still  PHP4? Not PHP5, right?

I am asking this because some forum softwares are going to transfer form PHP 4 to 5. From what I read form the web, PHP 5 can be less coding, program codes can more clean, also utilize PHP5 features.

The next release of phpBB, 3.1, will be in PHP 5. That's why I am asking this.

2.0 will still work on PHP4, last I heard. The next release might change that, but it's up to the developers. As for less coding, it really depends. For functional programming (such as SMF uses), it's still the same amount of code.

I wouldn't recommend trying to use PHP4. It's long unsupported by the developers of PHP.

Even PHP 5.2 has been EOL'd... I wish SMF would drop support for anything less than 5.3 for the next version, but I know that won't happen... I'd settle for anything less than 5.2 as phpBB.
