We have been using 1.x for a few years now but we are thinking of upgrading to 2.x. Is it possible to upgrade from 1.x to 2.x and still keep all our posts? Will we be able to keep the same URL to log in so that the upgrade appears seamless?

you can follow the directions for upgrading and you should have no issues at all. Upgrading SMF

Yes to all of the above - but - you will lose any mods for that version of SMF. You may be able to find versions for 2.0 of the same mod or find similar types of mods for 2.0, but you will have to install them from scratch.
