OpenID Critical Error

I simply got nowhere trying to set up a new account with OpenID.  Thus I registered here on this forum just to comment.
In particular I would get this error:

Your password must contain a mix of upper and lower case letters, as well as digits.
The OpenID address given has not been verified yet. Please log in to verify.

Which makes no sense, since the whole point of OpenID is that I don't want to share my password with the forum.
Version affected include 2.0 RC5.

What forum were you trying to register on with OpenID?  Who is your OpenID provider?
