Hello all,

I have seen on many forums over the years, specfic like VIP areas where you must pay a monthly fee to gain excess to the topics inside.

How can I put this into action with a SMF?

Thanks  ;)

smf 2.0 has a built in paid subscription feature, you just need to assign permissions/boards to the group you would join with the subscription.

Well, then, if you want the paid user feature, then upgrade.....    Although you should probably wait a short time, until 2.0 final is out

You can implement this, though a bit tricky, in 1.1.13 and earlier. Though to can not collect payment directly.
You create a new VIP Member Group.
Create the VIP category and create your boards with access only for that new VIP member group.
That gives you a basic VIP group but you have to manually upgrade everyone you want to have access, possible on small sites not on big ones.

You can take this one step further if you have programming capability.

Go to the 'members' table and look in the ID_GROUP column to find out what number is being used for the VIP group. You must have created at least one user in this new group to be able to find it.

Now write a program that will change that number for any member you want to upgrade. I have taken this to the point where a VIP signs up through a form, this creates a PayPal payment page, using PayPal IPN this triggers the script to run and update the person that has just paid. Of course you can add features like length of membership etc or even different ID_GROUPS with different payments.

Can we mark this topic solved, or is there something you still need help with drenched? :)
