Its very strange the other day i noticed a link on the bottom of my site that I did not add. I haven't installed any mods in the last couple days. I have no idea where it came from.

"Simple Audio Video Embedder"
It links to a site to create a free forum. I've looked though my files on my site and can't seem to find it. Maybe i am not looking in the right file. This appears on every custom theme as well as the defaults. Any idea what file I need to be editing to remove it? I can't seem to find the right file.

I feel stupid for asking this, but i can't find the correct file to edit

Illori

can you post a full list of all installed mods on your forum?

Do you have this one installed?

OH PFFFT I just checked on my mods page and it says it is. I don't remember installing it. One of my co-admins must have.... :S

Heheh, Is it required to keep that on there or can i remove it? And how do i?

Illori

you must keep all copyrights in place unless you have permission to remove it from the author.

kat

Although, that doesn't actually look like a copyright notice.

It's just a link.

In the Read_Me, it states "Links to http://www.smfhacks.com must remain unless branding free option is purchased."

As that link clearly goes to http://www.createaforum.com, NOT smfhacks.com, I'd say that you have every right to remove it, if you want to.

If the author can't even get his TOS correct, well...

Illori

personally i would not risk it, but it is up to you if you want to keep it or remove it.

kat

For what it's worth, I've sent the author a message about this.

DisturbedGoddess

I guess i'll have to contact him and see if he minds that i remove it or if he wants me to fix the link.

kat

He's not been civil enough to reply to my message, sadly.

Aw that sucks!

So can i just remove it? Or should i just leave it just in case? And again what file do i edit?

kat

I'd suggest sending him a message, yourself.

If you get no reponse, after a few days, come back here.

Its require that you must have that link if you are going to use that mod,   the mod author uses createaforum  as his copyright link and its perfectly legal to do so.
Oh, wouldn't it be great if I *was* crazy? ...then the world would be okay

Oh, of course it is.

I'm wondering if this copyright mullarkey is getting silly, though.

If your site has fifty-odd mods and every one has a copyright that has to be displayed, you'll end-up with an entire page of copyright notices.
