Making a shoutbox for your forum?

I've used the search function but am still at a loss.

How do you actually put a shoutbox at the top of the forum? It seems like I'm missing the steps. Also, what shoutbox do you recommend?

Simple Portal has a preconfigured shoutbox, if that helps at all.

I found a great chatbox. SMFPacks. Problem is it works perfect in firefox, google chrome and with the iPhone perfectly. But with Internet explorer nothing. You can see the box but can't post or read.

If anyone here has experience with this I'd appreciate the help.

I'm also looking for a shoutbox / chatbox.  But the big red text at the top of this that says 'development and support for this mod has ceased' puts me off this one.

There are alternatives around, with or without portals.
Just search for shoutbox and you'll get a few on the mod site
